Know Your Numbers

Whether you’re trying to control or prevent heart disease, it’s important to know your numbers like blood pressure and cholesterol.

As a woman, you are probably always putting other people first and often can’t find time to take care of yourself. But when it comes to your heart, you have to put yourself first. A healthy heart is what you need to live a long, active, loving life. Your heart health is in your hands.

Start taking control of your heart health by asking your family doctor these six questions … and taking his or her answers to heart.

Six Questions to Ask Your Doctor

  1. What are my personal risk factors for heart disease, and how can I lower my risk?
  2. What are the warning signs of heart disease or a heart attack?
  3. If I think I'm having a heart attack, what should I do?
  4. When I quit smoking, how will that change my risk for heart attack?
  5. How does menopause affect my heart health?
  6. What is the latest research on taking low-dose aspirin to prevent or treat a heart attack?

Also, find out what your numbers are so you can lower your risk of a heart attack.
